December Kid's Happenings

Hello Church Family,

Going into the Thanksgiving week I, like many of you, begin to reflect on the things that I’m so thankful for.  I am truly thankful for so much and take even more for granted.  I could be listing my daily thanks on Facebook during the month of November, but I enjoy reading everyone else’s blessings more than the stress of having to strategically think of a way to share my own blessings to everyone.

I start to think of the few Sunday evenings when I was able to help the children write down six things that they were thankful for.  This was a simple task for me… just write down what they say.  So many of the children would say “mommy”, “daddy”, “toys” etc.  Then I started thinking about what we were asking these children to do.  This isn’t a simple task at all.  What would I or you do if we were asked to write down six things we were thankful for?  I for one wouldn’t know where to begin and certainly wouldn’t want to limit myself to just six things.  What if my priority of these six things are wrong.  What if I forget someone or something and offend them with my lack of appreciation.  What if I’m thankful for the wrong things…

The bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians to give thanks for everything because it is Gods will for us.  So we are supposed to not only be thankful for the good things in our lives, but also for the not so good things.  Wow, that isn’t easy to do.  But when I look back at the bad things that have happened I can now see, in some cases, why God wanted me to endure those things.  He has a perfect plan for me and you.  It isn’t always the life that we would have chosen for ourselves, but it is the life that He has chosen for us as long as we are living for Him.  So coming out of the Thanksgiving
season and going into the Christmas season, be thankful every minute of everyday for everything.  The good and the bad that comes our way are blessings of God’s perfect plan.  Don’t limit yourself or limit God to just a number of things that you are thankful for because His blessings are limitless.  God, I am thankful for everything!  Even when I am sad, angry and impatient, I am thankful for you and your promises for me.  Thank you for allowing my life to be a part of your perfect plan.

God Bless,

April Shap
