Lend a Helping Hand
I love Sundays! I love seeing my church family gather together in fellowship to praise the one true and living God! When each of you lifts your voices in praise, it blesses my heart. When there is fellowship and sharing of life together, burdens are made lighter because we are not alone but are together as the body of Christ. When we greet one another with a smile, joy is renewed and strengthened!
Sometimes, we feel like we are on an island all by ourselves, drifting and doing life alone. Church, however, should be a place where we know we have people who care about us. A place where we can find refuge from the storms of life. But it is also a place where we should look for opportunities to encourage other believers! What we do on Sundays matters. What YOU do on Sundays matters!
When I was entering high school, my mother passed away from her battle with cancer. It was a difficult time for our family as we tried to find our new normal in the day-to-day. One of the most helpful things that our church did for us during our time of grieving was to show up! Meals were brought, which was great, cause with three guys in the house, there wasn’t much cooking going on. Dirty clothes were whisked away and brought back clean and folded. Letters of encouragement were sent. All of these small sacrifices from our church family helped us heal as a family and reminded us that we were loved, not just by our church but by a mighty God.
Matthew 20:28 tells us that “even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve.” Just as Christ came to serve, we too should be looking for opportunities to serve one another.
We want Oakhill Baptist to be a welcoming place where all of us, whether you’ve been a member for 50 years or it’s your first Sunday, to be encouraged in our faith through God’s Word, worship, and the fellowship of His people. You play a role in this! We want you to come to church to be encouraged spiritually through the preaching of God’s Word and the songs of praise to our King. We want you to build community with other believers so that your faith can be strengthened. We also want you to go beyond yourselves in the service of others in our church.
One of the easiest ways to serve your church family is to join one of our areas of service! You will be a part of helping Sunday Morning worship happen and making it a welcoming place to worship the Lord together. Some of the areas that you can get involved in are:
Chair Set up Team
Van Ministry
Greeters
Welcome Desk Attendant
Coffee Bar
Safety Team
I know it may seem silly to think that being a greeter is so important that it will help someone through the loss of a mother, but it’s the warm smiles and the showing up that remind all those that are looking for hope that they can find their hope in Christ. It’s the small things that can make a big difference, and if we can’t help each other in the small things how will we be ready to show up when the world is falling apart. Be apart of encouraging believers! Serve others as Christ came to serve!
Love you and mean it!
