MAGNIFIED! VBS RECAP
This year's Magnified! VBS was amazing! We hosted three VBS experiences. In the morning, we partnered with the Oakhill Baptist Childcare to offer VBS for the day camp children. There were about 40 kids each day. I was grateful that more volunteers could participate in this VBS. The day camp kids loved singing the songs and learning the truth from God’s Word.
We also hosted a VBS in partnership with Covert Avenue Baptist Church. The church has not held a week-long VBS in a long time. We brought several volunteers, and they had several as well. It was a great week; they had several children attend and were able to share with them how God is magnified in the scriptures.
Finally, we had our evening VBS at Oakhill South Campus. We had about 150 children attend each night. It was great to see so many children learning about Jesus. They also raised over $2,000 for our mission offering to support IMB missionaries in the Amazon Jungle. A highlight of the week was seeing our missionaries, Nick and Melissa Scott, back home on furlough, share with the children about what God is doing in Japan! On Wednesday, I shared the gospel with children, and on Thursday, the Bible teachers had them fill out a response card. We had 24 children respond that they wanted to talk to someone about knowing Jesus as Savior and Lord. I am working with parents to help them in any way I can, and I hope to see some baptisms very soon!
Overall, it was a great VBS week. I must give a special shout-out to all the wonderful volunteers we had. We had over 100 volunteers participate this year. I appreciate every one of you! You made a huge difference. It takes all of us to make VBS happen. THANK YOU! I hope to see everyone next year. We are already getting excited for Illumination Station!
AWANA KICK-OFF
August 27th will be our AWANA kick-off. AWANA is our children’s discipleship program that runs during the school year. Clubs are offered for preschool (2 years before kindergarten) up through 6th grade. AWANA meets every Wednesday from 6:00-7:30 p.m. We also offer a middle school and high school program that meets on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed from 2 Timothy 2:15. AWANA teaches children God’s word and helps them to memorize verses. They get to have tons of fun and play lots of games. We are looking for some volunteers to help this year. There are several roles I need to fill. Game coordinator, verse listener, club helper, and more. Let me know if you are interested in being involved in this rewarding ministry! Email me at
or call the church office at 812-476-3450.
