Dear Upward Families,
Due to the recent spike in Covid-19 in Vanderburgh county and Indiana we have made the decision to delay the start of the Upward Basketball & Cheer season. Currently our county is in orange according to the state government. We also saw a record number of cases over the last week in our county. We are carefully watching the numbers and want to keep the families in our church and community as safe as possible.
With the new plan practices would start the week of Dec. 28th instead of Nov. 30th. Games would start on January 15th & 16th instead of 8th & 9th. This would allow for ten practices (3 before games start) and an eight-game schedule. This also includes an elementary age celebration & middle school league tournament on March 12th & 13th respectively. We would lose our make-up date, so if there is a game canceled due to inclement weather it will not be made-up.
Overall, this is not a very big change, we are still committed to making this league happen! We will continue to watch the numbers in our area. If things get worse there is a possibility of canceling the season, however we will do everything in our power to make sure that does not happen. We have been hosting a league for over 10 years and are dedicated to hosting this year! We are going to wait to hand out uniform kits until the latest possible date. If we do have to cancel the league because of factors outside our control and we have not given out uniforms, then every player will receive a full refund. If uniforms have been handed out, we cannot issue a refund. We hope you understand that we are doing our very best to navigate the uncertain future.
We will be working with our coaches over the coming weeks to make our league a safe and fun environment. Attached you will find our Covid-19 guidelines. These guidelines may change and evolve over the coming weeks based on recommendations by health officials.
